Fascinating Film of the Church in the 1960s

These four videos are little snippets into the Catholic Church of the early 1960s. (I found the first video via the Hermeneutic of Continuity and then couldn’t stop combing through Pathé’s archives!)

Honestly, it seems like a different world. Both the strength of the Church (look at all those nuns!!) and the optimism seems almost unbelievable. You can really see that people genuinely thought the springtime of the Church, the aggiornamento of Vatican II, was at hand.

Not being a child of the 60s, but a child of children of the 60s, I’m slightly more cynical. Still, these videos provide a fascinating look into that time in the Catholic Church. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!
