Shock and Prayer on Pope Benedict’s Resignation

I really can’t believe the news.

I’m honestly shocked. Like many people, I suspect, my first thought was “surely it’s a joke! A hoax! A mistake!”

But no.

Now, all my thoughts and prayers are with the Holy Father, with his successor and with all cardinals who have such a weighty task ahead of them.

This will be a tumultuous Lent for all Catholics. But I believe it will be a good one that like our Paschal season, ends with great hope and joy in a renewed future.

“And now, let us entrust the Holy Church to the care of Our Supreme Pastor, Our Lord Jesus Christ, and implore his holy Mother Mary, so that she may assist the Cardinal Fathers with her maternal solicitude, in electing a new Supreme Pontiff.”

St Peter, pray for us.

Blessed John Paul, pray for us.

Oh come, let us drench our Church in prayer. How we need it!
